Dr. Joseph Walker joined with Richard H. McDonald, a wholesale drug gist in San Francisco, in 1867 to manufacture California Vinegar Bitters. The firm soon opened a branch in New York City where Walker took charge leaving McDonald in California. Walker died in 1877, but McDonald continued the firm at least until 1880.
