RS159b Dr. Jas. C. Kerr Medicine Stamp

$300.00

The Holcombe book cites James C. Kerr’s entries in the Williams’ Cincinnati business directories, starting with 1864 as a “clerk,” in 1865 as a “showman,” and in 1866 as a “museum.” In 1868 he has the title “Dr. Kerr, system renovator,” and subsequently he emerges as “Proprietor of Kerr’s System Renovator.” Dr. Kerr’s private die stamp bears a portrait of himself. The denomination was reduced from 6¢ to 4¢ in 1870 when the price of his product was reduced to a dollar per bottle.
