Trimmed Large Die Proof of allegorical “Liberty” by Lorenzo Hatch, unknown use. Printed on India paper, die sunk to original card, exquisite and rare original proof.


Lorenzo J. Hatch was a very talented engraver and artist who had an unusual career in the bank-note business. He trained at the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and subsequently was employed at several private bank-note companies in the U.S. before going to China in 1908 to establish the first modern Chinese currency-printing bureau.
